DeAndre, Clippers have had 'zero discussions' about contract extension

DeAndre Jordan has until June 29 to decide whether to exercise his $24.1-million player option with the Los Angeles Clippers for next season, or whether to opt out and become an unrestricted free agent.

In the meantime, Jordan says there hasn't been any communication between him and the Clippers' front office regarding a possible contract extension.

"None," Jordan said, according to Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times. "Zero. Zero discussions."

The Clippers will presumably leave the ball in Jordan's court until the three-time All-NBA center decides what to do with his option.

"There is a contract for him next year if he wants to be here," Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank said at his end-of-season media availability Thursday, according to Turner.

Jordan, who has spent the entirety of his 10-year career with the Clippers, averaged 12 points, 15.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 0.9 blocks this season. The blocks were a career low, but the assists and rebounds were career highs, as was his 58-percent mark from the free-throw line.

He was shopped fairly aggressively this season as the Clippers toyed with the possibility of a rebuild, and he was very nearly traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers at the trade deadline. He doesn't seem to harbor any ill will - saying he hopes to play another decade with the Clippers - but with no overtures made on extension talks on either side, it could be a while before the front office has any notion of whether Jordan will still be on the team next season.

"I think I'm just going to hang out this summer and wait it out," Jordan said. "I mean, it'll be a tough decision. I want to think about all my options and do what's best for me and my career and my family. But most important, like I always say, I want to be where I'm wanted. And wherever that is, that's hopefully where I'm going to be."
