Things got ugly in Denver when San Diego Padres pitcher Luis Perdomo threw a pitch behind Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado.

Arenado charged Perdomo on the mound, causing both benches to clear and enter the skirmish. Six players in total were ejected from the game after the dust settled. Arenado was unimpressed.

"I didn't like it. They thought they had to do something, but I had to do something too. That's kind of why I went out there," Arenado told MLB.com's Daniel Kramer.

Tensions started bubbling between the two teams Tuesday when Scott Oberg hit Padres outfielder Manuel Margot with a pitch in the ribs, which sent him to the 10-day disabled list on Wednesday.

Prior to the brawl, the Padres hit Trevor Story in the first inning and the Rockies returned the favor by hitting Hunter Renfroe on the hand in the second. Apparently, Perdomo throwing behind Arenado was the last straw.

Padres manager Andy Green said the whole incident stemmed from the Rockies pitching "aggressively inside," with his squad simply following suit.

No suspensions have been issued, but further punishment is anticipated.

"I don't know how long - hopefully it's not a long time - but I expect something to be happening," Arenado said.

While this was the final game of a three-game set, the teams won't have to wait long to find out if any residual resentment remains. The Padres return to Coors Field for another three games on Monday, April 23.
