Tiger goes winless in historically poor Ryder Cup appearance

What a difference a week makes.

Tiger Woods lost his fourth and final Ryder Cup match Sunday, falling to Spaniard Jon Rahm 2&1 to go winless in the event, a week after winning a tournament for the first time since 2013.

Tiger becomes the fourth player since 1979 to win zero points while playing in four or more matches during a single Ryder Cup. Woods lost one match on Friday and two on Saturday before his disappointing showing versus the rookie Rahm in singles.

"I went 0-4 and obviously very disappointing because those are four points that aren't going towards our side, going towards their side," Woods said in Team USA's post-mortem press conference. "I'm one of the contributing factors to why we lost the cup, and it's not a lot of fun," he added.

Running into the buzzsaw pairing of Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood - who garnered the nickname "Moliwood" - during each team session certainly didn't help Tiger's chances of earning a point. Woods was partnered with Patrick Reed for the two fourball sessions and lost 13 of 32 holes played.

After falling to 0-2, Tiger was put with long-rumored partner Bryson DeChambeau and the results were the same against Fleetwood and Molinari, losing handily 5&4 in the alternate shot format.

Woods said he was "pissed off" on Saturday about being winless through three sessions despite feeling like he had not played poorly.

Including the Ryder Cup, the 42-year-old has played seven of the last nine weeks, an extremely demanding stretch of golf that included the PGA Championship, a World Golf Championship, and the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Despite his illustrious career, Ryder Cups continue to be the weak spot on the 14-time major winner's resume. His winless showing drops his record in the team event to 13-21-3, and his only Ryder Cup win as a player was in 1999.
