Padres send Myers to the DL with nerve irritation in right arm

Rick Scuteri / USA TODAY Sports

San Diego Padres outfielder Wil Myers sat out Tuesday night with back and arm issues. The latter is going to keep him out of the lineup for at least the next 10 days.

The Padres announced Wednesday that they placed Myers on the 10-day disabled list with right arm nerve irritation. Hunter Renfroe took his place in right field for Tuesday's game, with Jose Pirela shifting over from left field in Wednesday's lineup against the Colorado Rockies.

Myers, 27, recently returned to the outfield after serving as the Padres' primary first baseman over the last two seasons. With Eric Hosmer in the fold, they had to find a new spot for Myers.

In the first three games of the young season, Myers went 3-for-12 with a solo home run. Since arriving in San Diego via trade with the Tampa Bay Rays, he's developed into a double threat on the offensive side of the ball - especially over the past two campaigns, where he combined for 58 home runs and 48 stolen bases.

The Padres recalled pitcher Phil Maton from Triple-A El Paso as the corresponding move for placing Myers on the DL.
