Former England captain Ray Wilkins has died at age 61.

Wilkins, who spent a large part of his 24-year career with Chelsea and Manchester United, was admitted to St George’s Hospital in critical condition last week after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Wilkins won 84 caps for the Three Lions and played in two World Cups.

The former midfielder started his career with Chelsea before moving to Manchester United. He also enjoyed spells abroad with AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain. He then moved to Scotland to play with Rangers before spending time with Queens Park Rangers, Crystal Palace, Wycombe Wanderers, Hibernian, Millwall, and Leyton Orient.

He later pursued a career in coaching after retiring as a player, managing QPR and Fulham prior to an extended time as an assistant with several teams such as Chelsea, Watford, and most recently, Aston Villa.
