Elvis Andrus was hit on the right elbow by a pitch Wednesday in the ninth inning of the Texas Rangers' game against the Los Angeles Angels, and the shortstop was subsequently diagnosed with a fractured elbow.

After the game, the Rangers announced Andrus will undergo additional X-rays and a CT scan Thursday to further determine the severity of the injury.

Andrus went down in noticeable agony after getting plunked on a checked swing. Following a lengthy delay, he walked off the field under his own power, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa came in to pinch run.

Angels reliever Keynan Middleton delivered the errant pitch on an 0-2 offering with two out. He went on to retire Adrian Beltre in the next plate appearance to seal the 7-2 victory.

The 29-year-old Andrus has gone his entire nine-year career to date without featuring on the disabled list. However, after 1,393 games, that streak will almost certainly be over.

The Rangers had already recently lost second baseman Rougned Odor to the disabled list.
