Free-agent center Andrew Bogut won't sign with any NBA team ahead of this year's playoffs in order to assist his pregnant wife.

"This was a decision which has been up in the air for the past few months, but ultimately, I decided being home and around as much as possible during this period was the best thing for my family," Bogut said in a statement posted on Twitter.

As Bogut's wife is unable to travel to the United States due to the "high-risk" nature of her pregnancy, the longtime defensive specialist has elected to stay with her back in his native Australia.

"I am still working out and starting in shape, and will be ready for training camp for the 2018-19 season," Bogut added.

Since his selection as the No. 1 overall pick by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2005, Bogut has been known for his rim protection and defensive intensity. He was selected to the All-NBA third team for the 2009-10 season after averaging 15.9 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game and won the NBA championship with the Golden State Warriors in 2015.

Bogut most recently appeared stateside as a depth option on a rebuilding Los Angeles Lakers squad this season. In 23 appearances, he averaged 1.6 points and 3.4 rebounds in 9.4 minutes per game, before being waived on Jan. 6.
