Paris Saint-Germain has apparently identified Unai Emery's successor with news the Ligue 1 leader has been in touch with the representatives of Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.

It's understood the French side will not renew Emery's contract this summer following the Spaniard's lack of success in the Champions League. PSG was recently knocked out by Real Madrid in the round of 16.

Despite being linked with the likes of Jose Mourinho of Manchester United, Diego Simeone of Atletico Madrid, and Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri, PSG has elected to meet with Conte's representatives first in an attempt to lure the Italian away from Stamford Bridge, according to Fabrizio Romano of the Guardian.

A return to Italy could also tempt Conte to leave Chelsea, where he has reportedly been left frustrated by the club's unwillingness to sign players he has requested in past transfer windows. Conte, who last coached Italy at Euro 2016, is not expected to return to the national team, as he prefers to remain in club football.

Romano reports that talks between PSG officials and Conte's representatives went well, and that the French side is willing to offer the 48-year-old £500,000 more than the £9.5 million he currently makes at Chelsea.

The other three managers remain in contention, but it's believed PSG likes its chances of landing Conte given that he is allegedly discouraged with the direction at Chelsea.

PSG is on the verge of winning its fifth league title in six years, as Emery's men enjoy a 17-point edge on last season's champion, AS Monaco.

Meanwhile, Chelsea's Premier League title defence hasn't gone to plan after failing to keep pace with runaway leader Manchester City. The Blues are also in danger of missing out on qualifying for the Champions League as they sit five points back of fourth place.
