San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy told reporters Friday that the club expects Jeff Samardzija to miss three-to-four weeks with a pectoral strain, according to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Samardzija underwent an MRI on Thursday that revealed the injury after he struggled through four spring training starts, posting a 10.64 ERA while allowing six home runs in just 11 innings.

The right-hander had been remarkably durable throughout his career, tossing over 200 innings in each of his last five seasons.

The news comes as another significant blow to a Giants rotation that also lost ace Madison Bumgarner for the next six-to-eight weeks. The left-hander suffered a broken finger Friday when he was hit by a line drive.
