Triano to be considered as Suns' permanent coach

The Phoenix Suns have started their search for a permanent head coach and interim bench boss Jay Triano will be considered as a candidate, general manager Ryan McDonough told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Triano took over the rebuilding Suns after the firing of Earl Watson on Oct. 22. His agent told ESPN that Triano would like to prepare a formal presentation for McDonough and owner Robert Sarver at the end of the season.

Triano has tried to instill accountability with the team's youth movement, and has gone 19-50 so far as coach. Devin Booker, the Suns' top player, vouched for Triano in December, saying he'd like him to remain coach. The 59-year-old coached the Toronto Raptors for three seasons, as well as coaching the Canadian senior men's national team in the NBA offseason.

McDonough added that the Suns plan on being aggressive with trades and free agency going forward. They currently have three first-round draft picks and may have anywhere between $20 million and $30 million in salary cap space this summer.
