Tottenham has apparently joined the pursuit of West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans.

Following reported interest from rival Arsenal, Tottenham has emerged as a possible candidate to sign Evans with the news that Spurs are considering the possibility of triggering a £3-million release clause in the defender's contract if West Brom gets relegated this season, according to The Telegraph's Matt Law.

News of Tottenham's interest comes as the Midlands club struggles to climb out of the bottom of the Premier League table, with West Brom sitting 10 points from safety with seven matches remaining.

Manchester City was also allegedly interested in the former Manchester United defender before spending a club-record £57 million to sign Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao.

City's withdrawal will likely see the two north London teams battle to sign Evans this summer, but Law suggests Tottenham will have the upper hand on Arsenal if the club parts ways with Toby Alderweireld, who has attracted interest from clubs such as Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Manchester United.

It's believed that Arsenal made a late push to sign Evans at the end of the January transfer window before the Gunners refused to meet West Brom's asking price and abandoned their pursuit.
