Purdue refuses to give up on its star center.

The school's engineering and medical students have discussed designing a custom elbow brace made specifically for Issac Haas, who fractured his elbow in Purdue's first game of the NCAA tournament, according to Nathan Baird of the Journal & Courier.

Haas was determined to serve as a presence around his Boilermakers even after his injury, but the NCAA would not clear the elbow brace that he tried to wear prior to their Round of 32 win over Butler.

Having said that, Purdue head coach Matt Painter was fairly skeptical that any miracle solutions would be conceived before its next game against Texas Tech on Friday.

"He has the best brace you can possibly have on that they didn't approve," Painter said. "So if he has the best brace possible and he can't shoot a right-handed free throw, this brace isn't going to be better. It's just going to be one that's a little bit less (bulky) and it's going to get approved.

"He still has a broken elbow."

Haas enjoyed a phenomenal senior campaign in which he averaged 14.7 points and 1.3 blocks while shooting 62 percent from the field.
