Villanova guard Donte DiVincenzo set a new national championship game record with 31 points off the bench Monday, surpassing the 22 put up by Luke Hancock for Louisville in the 2013 title contest, which also came against Michigan.

DiVincenzo went 10-of-15 from the field, including 5-of-7 from downtown, and added five rebounds, three assists, and two highlight-reel blocks. No player has scored more points in the NCAA final since 1989, when John Morton dropped 35 for Seton Hall.

Sophomore DiVincenzo, nicknamed the Michael Jordan of Delaware, exploded for 18 points in the opening half while the rest of the Wildcats struggled offensively.

He continued his onslaught in the second period, being summoned from the bench after less than a minute, and earning props from NBA star Blake Griffin.
