How 2 dumb mistakes sent the Wizards, Celtics to double OT

Basketball fundamentals frown on various things, and two in particular: Don't leave your man wide open - especially late in tight games, and don't turn the ball over on an inbounds pass.

Enter the Boston Celtics and Washington Wizards, two teams that put on an unexpectedly wild affair Wednesday night despite the fact both squads are currently missing a combined 212 man games from respective rotation players.

It started with the Celtics up three with 5.5 seconds left in regulation. With Boston guarding against the trey, the Wizards' Markieff Morris threw an inbounds pass to a cutting Otto Porter Jr.

Morris' twin brother, Celtics forward Marcus, bought in on Porter for some reason, leaving Jodie Meeks all alone in the corner. And just like that, they were headed to overtime.

With 16 seconds left in the first OT, Washington was up two when Tomas Satoransky picked off a Jayson Tatum pass. Boston quickly fouled, setting up this disaster from Markieff and Bradley Beal.

That eventually put the ball in the hands of Tatum, who squared the game again, missing the free throw on the and-1 and sending the contest to a second overtime.

The Wizards outscored the Celtics 10-9 in the final session, picking up a needed 125-124 win. Afterward, Boston's Morris took the blame for the missed assignment that forced overtime.

"Me being a veteran, I put that on me," he said, according to ESPN's Chris Forsberg. "Just for committing to the ball, knowing that they needed a three, that was my bad."

The error overshadowed a big night offensively for Morris, who scored a season-high 31 points with the Celtics missing Kyrie Irving and Al Horford.
