The New York Yankees may be positioning themselves to make another addition before the 2018 season gets underway.

The Yankees won't rule out making a run at free-agent starting pitcher Alex Cobb if his price drops and they can remain under the luxury-tax threshold, a baseball source told Newsday's Anthony Rieber on Wednesday.

Manager Aaron Boone said a little over two weeks ago that Cobb and Lance Lynn (who signed with the Minnesota Twins) didn't seem like "realistic options" for his club, but things appear to have changed.

The 30-year-old has spent his entire career pitching in the AL East with the Tampa Bay Rays, which would be of interest to the Yankees considering he's had success against the teams they will most frequently play.

Cobb remains among a dwindling list of unsigned free agents with major-league experience despite generating plenty of interest.

He's also attached to draft-pick compensation after rejecting a $17.4-million qualifying offer from the Rays.

The Yankees have had quite an offseason already, trading for NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton and infielder Brandon Drury, signing second baseman Neil Walker, and re-signing left-hander CC Sabathia.
