Detroit Tigers reliever Travis Wood will miss significant time after tearing the ACL and medial meniscus in his left knee during Thursday's game, the team announced.

Wood snared a line drive and proceeded to get involved in a rundown with a baserunner between second and third when he slipped on the infield grass. He grabbed his knee in pain and had to be helped off the field. It was his first appearance of the spring.

The 31-year-old was in camp as a non-roster invitee and had a shot at cracking the Opening Day roster. Wood, who won a World Series with the Chicago Cubs in 2016, posted a 6.80 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in 94 innings split between the Kansas City Royals and San Diego Padres last season.
