An unidentified bidder dropped $66,000 on a replica of John Daly's 1995 British Open Championship Claret Jug at an online auction recently.

There is some controversy surrounding the coveted trophy, though. The same Claret Jug was removed from the golf memorabilia auction site Green Jacket Auctions in 2016 after Daly disputed its legitimacy on Twitter.

Daly sent out similar tweets earlier this month after the trophy was put up for sale again by Heritage Auctions.

However, Heritage Auction noted in the original description of the item that there were two trophies produced for Daly:

"This is one of two produced for Daly by The Royal and Ancient Golf Club's official silversmith Nicolas Winton. We stress to interested parties that there is no ownership controversy today, and that this is indeed the one and only Daly Claret Jug available to the collecting public."
