Eustachy steps down as Colorado State head coach

The Larry Eustachy era at Colorado State is officially over as the veteran head coach announced his resignation on Monday.

"At the end of the day it is time for me to step aside and allow Colorado State to open a new chapter of Rams basketball," Eustachy said in a statement. "Likewise, this also gives me a chance to hit the reset button and then put all my energy into future opportunities."

The news comes after the school launched an internal investigation of Eustachy's conduct and treatment of his players, the second such investigation of the coach in the past four years.

While the findings of the latest investigation haven't been revealed, sources told Matt Stephens of The Denver Post that it revolved around verbal abuse of players by Eustachy, including a pattern of berating them with profanities behind closed doors.

Former Rams athletic director Jack Graham didn't mince words when asked by Stephens about Eustachy parting ways with the school.

It's not the first time in his career that Eustachy has resigned from a position amidst scandal, as he left Iowa State in 2003 following the release of pictures of the coach kissing several young women and drinking at a party near Missouri's campus following a game.

Colorado State is 11-19 on the season and sits 10th in the Mountain West Conference.
