The Major League Baseball Players Association's free-agent spring training camp is certainly being well attended.

Designed to accommodate the overwhelming number of free agents remaining and to give them a place to carry out their normal spring routine, attendee Jarrod Saltalamacchia estimated to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe that there are roughly 50 players taking part.

In addition to Saltalamacchia, who appeared in 10 games with the Toronto Blue Jays last season, Mike Napoli, Tyler Clippard, and Chris Johnson are among the notable players in camp.

Little has been made public surrounding the camp as the MLBPA banned media from attending.

"This isn't a case of teams not knowing who was out there and whether they can play. So as a result ... we just wanted to make sure guys had an atmosphere where they could just focus on getting into shape," MLBPA executive director Tony Clark said of keeping the media out. "It may change.”

There was, however, a signing to come out of it as the Boston Red Sox inked left-handed reliever Tommy Layne to a minor-league deal Saturday.
