Eduardo Nunez caught up with some old friends Saturday at JetBlue Park, the spring-training home of the Boston Red Sox, but the veteran infielder didn't participate in any workouts and stressed that he hasn't finalized a deal to rejoin his old club.

"We're just trying to figure out what’s going on," Nunez told Alex Speier of the Boston Globe. "I just came here to visit with my friends, to visit with my teammates. (The Red Sox will) let you know when we have something."

Earlier this week, reports indicated that Nunez - who dazzled after being traded to Boston by the San Francisco Giants in July - had agreed to a new one-year deal with the Red Sox that included an option for 2019. It's not clear what's causing the holdup, though it's possible Nunez, who strained his PCL late in the season, hasn't passed his requisite physical.

In 38 games with the Red Sox last year, Nunez hit .321/.353/.539 with eight homers and 12 doubles, shining as the club's leadoff batter for six weeks. His wonky knee sidelined him in early September, however, and limited him to just one game over the final three weeks of the regular season. Though he was reinserted into Boston's lineup for Game 1 of the ALDS against the Houston Astros, Nunez aggravated his knee injury in his first at-bat of the series, pulling up lame as he tried to run out a ground ball. He missed the remainder of the series.

"(The time in Boston) was great, great," Nunez added. A great experience."
