A deadly shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., took the lives of 17 people and injured at least a dozen others on Wednesday, according to Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel.

Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo attended the school in his high school days, and responded to the tragedy on Twitter soon after:

Rizzo, a three-time All-Star, was drafted out of the high school by the Boston Red Sox in 2007. In November, he donated $150,000 to improve its baseball and softball fields.

A 19-year-old former student of the school was confirmed as the gunman and was taken into custody about an hour after Wednesday's incident.
