BVB chief: 'Always a chance' of signing Batshuayi on permanent deal

Borussia Dortmund newcomer Michy Batshuayi may not have a buyout clause in his contract, but that doesn't mean he won't extend his stay at the Westfalenstadion.

"There's always a chance, although if he scores in every game, it will be difficult" to sign him permanently, club executive Hans-Joachim Watzke said, per the Evening Standard's Simon Johnson.

Batshuayi replaced Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the German club after completing a loan move from Chelsea last month. Life in the Bundesliga has so far been kind to the 24-year-old, who scored twice on his debut and again in last weekend's 2-0 win over Hamburg.

Batshuayi was starved for minutes at his parent club, with Chelsea manager Antonio Conte restricting the Belgian international to domestic cup competitions.

Conte neglected to use Batshuayi even as an injury backup, often fielding Eden Hazard as a false nine instead.

But the Blues apparently weren't ready to give up the £33.1-million signing, denying Dortmund the right to buy Batshuayi at the end of the season.

"We tried that, but it just wasn't possible," Watzke said, according to ESPN FC's Stephan Uersfeld. "There are no boards, but you deal with Roman Abramovich or his governor, and if they say nyet, it means nyet."

Batshuayi's move to Dortmund enabled Aubameyang to join Arsenal and Olivier Giroud to team up with Chelsea in one of the transfer window's most drawn-out sagas.
