As expected, the Utah Jazz officially waived Derrick Rose on Saturday. The move frees up the former NBA MVP to sign as a free agent with the team of his choice.

While the Minnesota Timberwolves have been heavily rumored to be interested in bringing Rose aboard to reunite with Tom Thibodeau, Jimmy Butler, and Taj Gibson, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports the Washington Wizards could have interest given the current injury to starting point guard John Wall.

The Wolves still have "great interest" in Rose and will explore the possibility of claiming him off waivers, sources told the New York Times' Marc Stein.

Rose was jettisoned from Cleveland in the Cavaliers' trade-deadline roster purge, going to Utah as part of the package for Rodney Hood.

The 29-year-old Rose averaged 9.8 points in 16 games for Cleveland this season.
