Kirby Smart pleads for Georgia fans to pack stadium for spring game

After landing the nation’s top recruiting class on National Signing Day, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart issued a plea for fans to attend this year’s spring football game.

“We need our fan base, who has done everything we've asked them to do, to turn out April 21st at 4 o'clock and be out there for G-Day in what we expect to be another sellout, packed opportunity to go out and represent University of Georgia, and show these kids in recruiting that it does matter and it is special here," Smart said, according to Jason Butt of The Telegraph.

Smart also credited Georgia fans who showed up to last season’s road games, specifically at Notre Dame and Vanderbilt, with helping in this year’s recruiting success.

Only Georgia and Alabama - who beat the Bulldogs in the national championship - earned national broadcast spots on ESPN for their spring games this season.

Last year’s spring game drew an attendance of 66,133, the second-largest fan turnout ever for the event.

It’s a mark Smart would like to see bested this year. The G-Day game takes place at Sanford Stadium on Saturday, April 21, at 4 p.m. ET.
