The Colorado Rockies and right-hander Greg Holland weren't able to come to terms this offseason, but it wasn't for a lack of trying.

Holland was offered, and subsequently rejected, a three-year, $52-million offer to return as Colorado's closer, Bob Nightengale of USA Today said Friday on MLB Network, per Patrick Saunders from The Denver Post.

After being rejected by Holland, the Rockies set their sights on fellow closer and former Chicago Cubs right-hander Wade Davis, who accepted that same offer.

Player ERA WHIP K/9 SV
Davis 2.30 1.14 12.1 32
Holland 3.61 1.15 11.0 41

Both Davis and Holland performed well in 2017, but considering the offseason's free-agent freeze, it's unlikely Holland gets the four years he reportedly seeks, let alone a similar salary.

Holland missed all of 2016 recovering from Tommy John surgery and, after impressing teams during bullpen sessions last winter, signed a one-year, $6-million deal with Colorado.
