Penn State, ex-DC Shoop settle contract lawsuit

Penn State is no longer be at odds with former defensive coordinator Bob Shoop, as the university announced Friday that they've reached a settlement in their contract dispute.

"Both coach Shoop and Penn State are pleased to bring this matter to an amicable resolution," the university said in a statement, per Adam Rittenberg of ESPN. "Coach Shoop wishes continued success for the Penn State football program and remains grateful for the support he received from the coaching staff, support staff, and the fans while he was at Penn State. Penn State recognizes that coach Shoop was an integral part of the coaching staff during his tenure at Penn State and wishes him the best in his future endeavors."

The university filed a lawsuit against Shoop in July, seeking nearly $900,000 in damages citing a clause that Shoop invoked when he resigned before his contract expired. Shoop then filed a counterclaim, saying he signed the contract under duress and he was "constructively discharged/terminated."

Shoop is the defensive coordinator at Mississippi State, having taken the job after two seasons at Tennessee.
