SEC generated $596.9 million in revenue for 2016-17

The 2016-17 fiscal year was very productive for the SEC, as the conference announced Wednesday it generated $596.9 million in that span, according to Adam Rittenberg of ESPN.

The distribution of that revenue between the 14 member schools is approximately $40.9 million, not including bowl revenue taken in by each program. This year's total increased slightly from last year's total of $584.2 million.

"This distribution from the SEC is instrumental to our universities' athletics program's ability to provide the highest possible level of support for the thousands of student-athletes who participate annually in nearly two dozen conference sports," commissioner Greg Sankey said in a statement. "This commitment to excellence encompasses superior support in coaching, equipment, training, academic counseling, medical care, and life-skills development for our student-athletes."

The SEC is the first conference to release its tax records from the fiscal year.
