Marc Bartra joined Real Betis on a permanent deal on Tuesday, ending the defender's difficult spell with Borussia Dortmund.

The 27-year-old Barcelona product signed a contract until 2023 in Seville after featuring in just three of Dortmund's last 10 matches. The 13-time Spanish international suffered a series of niggling injuries while representing the North Rhine-Westphalia club.

The Spaniard returns to his native land after one-and-a-half years in Germany that was blighted by the terrorist attack on Dortmund's team bus in April 2017. Bartra recently released a statement insisting his inability to become an immovable fixture in the first-team squad was not a result of him allegedly struggling to overcome the shock.

Der BVB chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke wished Bartra the best in the next step of his career, and described him as a popular figure around the club. Bartra won the DFB-Pokal during his time with Dortmund.
