Dantonio denies mishandling sexual assault complaints

Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio denied mishandling complaints of sexual assault against members of his football program over his tenure, calling such accusations "completely false" during a Friday night press conference.

Dantonio, who's been at the helm in East Lansing since 2007, told reporters he isn't planning to step down as head coach of the Spartans amid the public outrage.

An investigative report from ESPN earlier Friday claimed Dantonio failed to appropriately address allegations of sexual assault against several of his players. In one instance, Dantonio supposedly disciplined an accused player by making him tell his mother what he had done.

At the press conference, Dantonio said he reported every incident mentioned in ESPN's story - at least 16 players were accused of sexual violence against women since 2007 - to police or the universtiy's Title IX office.

Athletic director Mark Hollis gave up his post Friday, and Lou Anna Simon stepped down as university president Wednesday, amid backlash over the way Michigan State previously handled complaints of sexual violence.

The scandal rose to the surface with the trial of former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar, who also used to work in Michigan State's athletic department. He was accused of abusing more than 150 female athletes since 1992, and was sentenced Wednesday to up to 175 years in jail.
