Newcastle United is rolling the dice on a Brazilian footballer for the fourth time.

On Tuesday, Newcastle signed Kenedy on loan from Chelsea until the end of the season. The Brazilian wing-back will not be eligible to play in the Magpies' FA Cup tie against the Blues on Sunday, but could play when Burnley visits St. James' Park in the Premier League three days later.

"I'm so happy with this opportunity at Newcastle," Kenedy said. "They've opened the door to me to come here, show my potential, and come and play for Newcastle. It's a traditional club and Rafa Benitez is a fantastic, amazing coach. Christian Atsu, as well - we trained together at Chelsea and know each other, and he said good things about the club. So it was easy to take this decision."

Kenedy jeopardised his career in July, when, during Chelsea's pre-season tour of China, the product of Fluminense published offensive posts on social media. The footballer posted two videos on Instagram, one of which included a caption reading: "Damn, China." The other featured a security guard who was sleeping and a caption reading: "Wake up China. You idiot." He apologised and returned to the United Kingdom before the end of the tour.

Kenedy will become the fourth Brazilian footballer to represent Newcastle after Claudio Cacapa, Fumaca, and Mirandinha, who was the first player from Brazil to appear in English football, signed by the Magpies for a reported transfer fee of more than £500,000 in 1987.

Yet to make an appearance in the Premier League this season, Kenedy boasts three appearances in the Carabao Cup and two in the FA Cup.
