Real Salt Lake welcomed back another familiar face on Tuesday, announcing the re-signing of goalkeeper Nick Rimando from free agency. The 12-year veteran is the longest-tenured player at the club and joins fellow stalwart Kyle Beckerman with a new contract for the 2018 MLS season.

"I couldn't be happier continuing my career with Real," Rimando said in a club-issued statement. "This is home and I couldn't fathom leaving this club that means so much to me. I was here in the glory days and want to help bring this club back where it belongs. I'm excited to get the season started. We have the coaches, players and potential to do big things."

Rimando, formerly of D.C. United and the now-defunct Miami Fusion, joined RSL in 2007 and was a key part of the team's successful 2009 MLS Cup triumph. He has recorded 352 appearances in all competitions, with 137 shutouts. Rimando also earned 21 caps with the U.S. men's national team.

"He's the best goalkeeper in the history of the league," Real Salt Lake head coach Mike Petke said. "Playing with him in D.C. and winning a championship and seeing those special qualities - he has single-handedly embraced and took that position and become the best goalkeeper in our league's history. I am extremely ecstatic to have him back. You take his veteran leadership and his experience - for me it's vital."

The 38-year-old will hope to add a third MLS Cup trophy to his personal list in 2018 but will need to help restore Real Salt Lake into a playoff-contending side first. The club missed the 2017 post-season after finishing eighth in the Western Conference.
