A-Rod joins Sunday Night Baseball booth as analyst

There's going to be a new - though familiar - voice in the booth for Sunday Night Baseball.

ESPN announced Tuesday that Alex Rodriguez will join the crew of Sunday Night Baseball this season. He'll work alongside Jessica Mendoza and new play-by-play announcer Matt Vasgersian, who also finalized a deal with the network.

"I'm looking forward to this new chapter in my broadcasting career," Rodriguez said in a statement. "It's an exciting time in baseball and now I get that front-row seat to tell that story every Sunday night on ESPN as well as calling my fourth postseason on FOX where I started this journey."

A-Rod replaces Aaron Boone, who was hired to manage the New York Yankees this offseason. Dan Shulman, the broadcast's most recent play-by-play voice, stepped down after last season.

Following his retirement in 2016, Rodriguez served as an analyst for FOX Sports, receiving positive reviews for his performance.

Rodriguez will make his Sunday Night Baseball debut April 1 when the Los Angeles Dodgers host the San Francisco Giants. His first Yankees game will be April 29 when they play the Los Angeles Angels.
