Report: Tottenham wouldn't accept world-record bid for hotshot Kane

Tottenham's stance on Harry Kane is so unwavering that it would resist even a world-record bid for the prolific striker, a source close to the club told ESPN FC's Dan Kilpatrick.

Kane's spectacular return of 29 goals this season has stoked rumours of a move abroad, with The Sunday Times' Jonathan Northcroft reporting that Real Madrid is prepared to offer an unprecedented £200-million for the 24-year-old.

But Spurs are adamant they won't sell the English international for any price, according to Kilpatrick.

The question is whether Tottenham can convince Kane of a long-term stay. Despite finishing 2017 with the most goals amongst players in the top five European leagues, Kane is reportedly pulling in a basic salary worth £90,000 a week - lower than the likes of contemporaries Romelu Lukaku, Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Morata, and Alexandre Lacazette.

Although Kane is tied to the north London side until 2022, he said his future depends on the club's ambition going forward.

"I've always said, keep progressing, keep getting better. We want to start winning trophies. That's the aim. As long as the club keep doing that, then yeah, I'm happy here," the former Millwall and Norwich City poacher said earlier this month.

Club chairman Daniel Levy is tasked with toeing the line between competitiveness and fiscal responsibility this year. While Tottenham is scheduled to move into its new £800-million stadium next season, it must also consider new contracts for Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Heung-Min Son, and Toby Alderweireld to keep the core of the team in tact. Each are on relatively modest wages ranging from $50,000 to $70,000 a week, Northcroft added.

Then there's Madrid. Should Karim Benzema's form continue to dip, Los Blancos could break the bank to secure Kane as the Frenchman's long-term replacement. They previously negotiated a then-world-record deal with Spurs to sign Gareth Bale in 2013.
