The Philadelphia Union struck a deal to sign attacker David Accam from the Chicago Fire in exchange for $1.2 million in allocation money, the two sides announced Friday.

The Fire received $900,000 in Targeted Allocation Money and $300,000 in General Allocation Money spread across the next two years.

Accam registered 33 goals and 15 assists over the past three seasons, playing mostly as a winger during his time in the Windy City.

"Today's acquisition of David Accam marks an exciting moment for our club, and we are thrilled to welcome him to the Philadelphia Union," sporting director Earnie Stewart said in a statement. "David possesses electrifying speed and skill to go along with a nose for goal comparable to the very best in MLS."

Although the Fire picked up Accam's option for 2018, there appeared to be friction between the Ghanaian and head coach Veljko Paunovic. Accam said he was "disappointed" that the Serbian ignored him for the 2017 MLS All-Star Game.

The Union now have the firepower to make a legitimate push for a postseason berth, with C.J. Sapong set to form a partnership up top with Accam.
