Alabama head coach Nick Saban promoted Mike Locksley to the positions of offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, according to Chris Low of ESPN, citing sources.

The decision comes less than a week after former Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Brian Daboll was hired away by the Buffalo Bills. Daboll had been the primary play-caller for Alabama, while Locksley spent last season as the team's co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach.

Locksley first joined the Crimson Tide as an offensive assistant for the 2016 season. The 48-year-old also has two stints as a head coach on his resume - first at New Mexico from 2009-11, and again during the latter half of the 2015 season at Maryland after the firing of Randy Edsall.

Alabama then continued its busy day of shoring up its offensive coaching staff, as a source told Bruce Feldman of Sports Illustrated that the school is expected to hire Penn State's Josh Gattis as co-offensive coordinator.

It's a somewhat surprising move for Gattis, as the 34-year-old has been with Penn State head coach James Franklin dating back to 2012 at Vanderbilt. Gattis served as a recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach for Penn State.
