Orlando City threatens action against Besiktas over pursuit of Larin

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Cyle Larin's proposed transfer to Besiktas may not be as imminent as first thought following Orlando City's threat to "take action" against the Turkish side and the club's insistence that an agreement has not been reached to sell the 23-year-old.

Besiktas released an image of Larin undergoing a medical in Istanbul on Saturday, presumably ahead of a transfer to join the SuperLig side.

However, the Major League Soccer club then issued a statement to dismiss reports of an agreed deal, and insisted it expects the Canadian forward to join his fellow Orlando players later this month at preseason camp:

Orlando City SC is aware of the announcement made by Beşiktaş J.K. regarding forward Cyle Larin. The club has not agreed to terms on a transfer of Larin and will take all necessary action against Beşiktaş in response to the announcement.

Larin remains under contract with Orlando City through 2019 and is expected to join his teammates at preseason camp later this month.

According to Alicia Rose DelGallo of ProSoccerUSA.com, there is no transfer agreement in place for Larin, and the forward signed a statement last year designed to prevent this kind of scenario before the expiration of his contract in 2019.

Since there is no official accordance between the two teams, Orlando could indeed pursue action against Besiktas over alleged tampering since Larin is still under contract.
