The New York Mets reportedly landed Jay Bruce on a three-year deal worth $39 million Wednesday, but it appears as if they had some competition for the outfielder's services.

Bruce also received a three-year contract offer from the San Francisco Giants, according to USA TODAY's Bob Nightengale, who reports the proposed deal was for about $10 million less than what Bruce reportedly received from New York.

With Bruce seemingly off the market, the Giants remain in talks with the Pittsburgh Pirates about Andrew McCutchen, Nightengale adds.

This is the second outfielder the Giants have missed out on. San Francisco had an agreement in place with the Miami Marlins to acquire Giancarlo Stanton before the MVP said he would exercise his no-trade clause to block a move to the Bay Area.

The Giants used 11 different players in the outfield last season, with Denard Span - who was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in the Evan Longoria deal - posting the highest OPS of the bunch (.756).

Along with McCutchen, the Giants - who are expected to possess one of the largest payrolls in 2018 - have also been linked to free agents J.D. Martinez, Lorenzo Cain, and Carlos Gonzalez.
