Looking to replace closer Wade Davis, who joined the Colorado Rockies earlier this offseason via free agency, the Chicago Cubs have shown interest in Greg Holland, according to Patrick Mooney of The Athletic.

While the free-agent market for position players and starting pitchers has been slow to develop, the market for relievers is nearly exhausted, with Holland the lone high-leverage option still available.

The 32-year-old is coming off of a bounce-back season in which he won NL Comeback Player of the Year, having missed the entire 2016 campaign recovering from Tommy John surgery. In 57 1/3 innings with the Rockies, Holland posted a 3.61 ERA and 3.72 FIP with 41 saves.

Holland was once among the best relievers in baseball and formed one-third of the Kansas City Royals' "three-headed monster" - alongside Davis and Kelvin Herrera - helping lead the club to back-to-back World Series berths in 2014 and 2015.

The Cubs have already added a pair of relievers this winter in Brandon Morrow and Steve Cishek.
