Nigel de Jong wasn't out of work for long with confirmation Friday that the Dutch midfielder has joined Mainz on a free transfer hours after his contract with Galatasaray was terminated by mutual consent.
The 33-year old signed a contract until the end of the season to mark his return to the Bundesliga for the first time in nine years when he was a member of Hamburg SV.
"I know that the team are well organised and want to play good, attacking football. I like the club and its history," De Jong said. "They have established themselves very well in the Bundesliga. I want to help the team and the club achieve their goals for the season. I would like to thank Rouven Schröder and Sandro Schwarz for giving me the chance to come here. I am really looking forward to making my return in the Bundesliga."
