Notre Dame star Josh Adams heads to the NFL

Matt Cashore / USA TODAY Sports

Josh Adams' career with Notre Dame is over as the star running back declared for the 2018 NFL Draft on Friday.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound junior rushed for a whopping 1,430 yards and nine touchdowns in 2017 and finishes his three-year career with an impressive 6.63 yard-per-carry average.

While he doesn't offer much out of the backfield as a receiver, Adams is one of the best pure running backs in the draft and is expected to be selected by the fourth round.

His decision to enter the draft is a big loss for the Fighting Irish as Deon McIntosh, the second-most prolific running back on the roster, finished more than 1,000 yards short of Adams' rushing total.
