Marshall player paralyzed after being shot at New Year's Eve party

Marshall defensive tackle Larry Aaron is paralyzed after he was struck by stray gunfire Monday morning at a New Year's Eve party in Severn, Maryland, according to Grant Traylor of The Herald-Dispatch.

Aaron, a redshirt freshman, was one of two people who were reported shot early Monday morning, according to Traylor, citing an initial report from WJZ-TV, CBS' Baltimore affiliate.

Aaron's mother, Melissa Aaron, confirmed that her son was struck in the back by a stray bullet. Despite the injuries not being considered life-threatening, Aaron confirmed her son does not have any feeling in his lower extremities.

"It is in his spine and he has no feeling in his legs," Melissa Aaron said. "They can't remove it because they are afraid it could be dangerous and hinder him even more to do so. It is right in the middle of his spine."

Aaron added that her son remains in good spirits and has been in contact with his teammates. Aaron saw action in eight games this season and recorded 13 tackles over that span.
