Northwestern's Thorson to undergo surgery for torn ACL

Northwestern received some clarity regarding injured quarterback Clayton Thorson on Tuesday, and the verdict is not good.

After suffering a knee injury that resulted in him being carted off the field in his team's Music City Bowl victory over Kentucky, the Wildcats announced that Thorson suffered a torn ACL in his right knee.

The university confirmed that there is no current timetable for his return to football activities, and that Thorson will spend the next two-to-three weeks working with team training staff prior to mid-January surgery.

Thorson finished the season with 2,844 passing yards and 15 touchdowns against 12 interceptions, and is the all-time winningest quarterback in Wildcats history.
