UCF officially announced the hiring of a number of assistants Sunday, and one in particular has direct ties to one of college football's biggest scandals in recent memory.

Golden Knights head coach Josh Heupel has added former Baylor coach Jeff Lebby to his staff as an offensive assistant, the school confirmed on its official website. The decision is noteworthy, considering Lebby is the son-in-law of disgraced former Bears head coach Art Briles and served on his staff for nine seasons, including when the university became mired in a lengthy sexual assault scandal.

When asked about the decision to bring Lebby on board, a UCF spokesman informed Andrea Adelson of ESPN every candidate had been thoroughly vetted.

Lebby spent last season as the offensive coordinator at Southeastern University, an NAIA program in Lakeland, Fla.
