Most expected a run-heavy contest between Army and San Diego State in Saturday's Armed Forces Bowl, and the two teams delivered in a highly entertaining matchup.

Army would emerge with a 42-35 win in dramatic fashion, as a 2-point conversion in the final seconds provided the go-ahead score.

Beyond the scoreboard, the game produced some astonishing numbers that had to be seen to be believed.

46

Thanks to its punishing rushing attack, Army held the ball for a ridiculous 46 of 60 minutes in the contest. That left San Diego State just 14 minutes of possession to keep up on the scoreboard. That the Aztecs were able to do so for almost the entirety of the game is incredible.

87

Considering Army held the ball for 46 minutes, it's not too surprising that it was able to run a total of 91 plays. What is shocking is that 87 of those plays were runs. Quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw led the way with a whopping 32 carries for 180 yards, while Kell Walker's run off a pitch play on the 2-point conversion provided the winning score. The 87 running plays were easily the most of the season for Army in any game, as the previous high was 69 against Tulane.

695

This was heaven for those with a special affinity for smashmouth football, as the teams combined for an absurd 695 yards of rushing offense on 108 carries.

15.8

Averaging 15.8 yards per catch would be considered a very high number, but Rashaad Penny actually averaged that number on each of his 14 runs! The star senior got things going early with an 81-yard score on the opening series, and added 49-yard, 32-yard, and 4-yard scores later in the contest.

31

There wasn't expected to be much passing between these two run-heavy offenses, but a combined total of 31 yards is still shockingly low. Army almost never throws the ball, but Christian Chapman entered the contest with over 400 yards passing combined across his last two games. The two quarterbacks completed just seven passes on a combined 13 attempts in Saturday's action.
