Report: Arizona State's Edwards hires San Diego State's Gonzales as DC

Herm Edwards appears to have found his defensive coordinator.

The Arizona State head coach has reportedly hired San Diego State defensive coordinator Danny Gonzales to take the same role with the Sun Devils, a source told Adam Rittenberg of ESPN.

Gonzales replaces the departing Phil Bennett, who resigned for personal reasons. Bennett will stay on to coach the Sun Devils in their matchup against NC State in the Sun Bowl on Dec. 29.

Gonzales is coming off of his first season as defensive coordinator at San Diego State after spending the previous six seasons coaching the Aztecs' safeties. He is expected to receive a two-year contract at Arizona State, according to Rittenberg.
