Watch: Botched 'Statue of Liberty' play helps Oregon score 14 points in 54 seconds

Scott Olmos-USA TODAY Sports

For 29 minutes and 6 seconds of the first half in Saturday's Las Vegas Bowl, Boise State absolutely dominated Oregon, leading the contest 24-0 and holding the ball on the Ducks' 11-yard line.

Somehow, in the final 54 seconds of the opening half, the Broncos not only failed to score, but allowed the Ducks to put two touchdowns on the board and enter the locker room down just 24-14.

Boise State announced itself on the national scene 10 years ago with a perfectly run "Statue of Liberty" play to beat Oklahoma in overtime, but an attempt to repeat the move backfired and started Oregon's onslaught.

Broncos quarterback Brett Rypien fumbled the handoff and it was scooped up by Troy Dye, who raced 86 yards for the score.

Boise State then completed a 65-yard pass on the first play from the ensuing kickoff to give the Broncos the ball on the Ducks' 7-yard line with under 20 seconds to play. Rypien was then picked off in the end zone by Tyree Robinson, who ran untouched for the 100-yard interception-return touchdown with just seven seconds to play.
