German legend Kahn regrets not leaving Bayern for United

To this day, Sir Alex Ferguson still hasn't forgiven Oliver Kahn for refusing to join Manchester United, the legendary German goalkeeper revealed.

Kahn claims Manchester United was eager to bring him to Old Trafford after he'd established himself as one of football's best shot-stoppers during his illustrious career with Bayern Munich.

Shortly after the turn of the century, the renowned Scottish manager inquired about his availability. Kahn rejected United's offer, but now says he regrets not taking Sir Alex up on an opportunity to ply his trade in England.

"Alex Ferguson is still at odds with me," Kahn told Sport Bild, as translated by Stephan Uersfeld of ESPN FC. "He was convinced I'd join Manchester United in 2003 or 2004, but building an era at Bayern was more important to me.

"Looking back, I believe that I should have done it back then. It would have been one last big challenge for me."

After failing to land Kahn, United signed Tim Howard in 2003 in what would prove to be a failed attempt to find a successor to Peter Schmeichel.

United eventually signed Edwin van der Sar, who starred for the Red Devils and helped the club win the Premier League four times, as well as a Champions League title.
