The Evil Empire is looking to load up.

After acquiring Giancarlo Stanton and trading away Chase Headley in separate deals, New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman now has his sights set on Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado.

The Yankees are one of the teams that have expressed interest in the three-time All-Star, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.

The Orioles began listening on Machado at the winter meetings as the club could look to rebuild by dealing their star infielder who's under contract for one more season before hitting free agency. While the Orioles are taking offers, it's unknown if the club would approve a deal to the Yankees. It was reported earlier Tuesday that Baltimore owner Peter Angelos wouldn't sign off on a deal to New York, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Depending on the package presented to the Orioles, that could change. The Yankees have a need at third base, and their combination of a deep farm system and desire to land someone at the hot corner could result in them being the best option for Baltimore. It's believed that the Orioles are looking to land two top pitching prospects.

Machado, who is projected to earn $17.3 million in arbitration this winter, is a career .280/.333/.447 hitter at Yankee Stadium with six home runs, nine doubles, and 15 RBIs in 41 games.
