Stanford's David Shaw has no interest in coaching at the NFL level, even though his name routinely pops up as possible targets for pro teams.

"I've coached at that level, Shaw - who worked for three NFL teams as an assistant from 1997-2005 - told Howie Kussoy of the New York Post. "I've worked with All-Pro guys and Hall of Fame guys, and I've coached in every game except for the biggest one, so it's not like, 'OK, that's my goal and I have to get there.' My goal is to do great things at Stanford. If one day that happens, great, but it's not a goal in my career to do that."

Several pro teams have been rumored over the years to have interest in Shaw, but he's never taken the bait. The 45-year-old, whose wife hails from New Jersey, was recently mentioned to be of potential interest to the New York Giants, but shot down any ideas he'd consider leaving Stanford at this juncture.

"I'm planning for the long haul," he said of his status with the Cardinal. "As much as we've won and played well, I think we're still establishing ourselves and we're still building and we're still growing. We can accomplish so much more, and I don't feel like that the job's close to halfway done."

Shaw led Stanford to a 9-3 record this season and has won three Rose Bowls in seven years since taking the reigns of the program from Jim Harbaugh ahead of the 2011 campaign. He's posted 10 or more wins in five of his first six full seasons as head coach.
