In wake of the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants both being forced to move on from an attempt to acquire superstar slugger Giancarlo Stanton, the Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers have exchanged trade scenarios, according to a report from Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

After news broke later that the New York Yankees were entering an advanced stage in trade talks with the Marlins, Morosi re-upped that the Dodgers are remaining involved in the potential acquisition of Stanton.

Morosi includes that the Dodgers are interested in Stanton, but only at the right price, implying they are unwilling to match the offerings made by the Giants and Cardinals. However, as Stanton has actively chosen to use his no-trade clause, the Dodgers may end up being the last ones at the table.

The Dodgers are a suboptimal trade partner for the Marlins, with their payroll already near the luxury tax. However, Stanton controls the situation by virtue of his no-trade clause, and isn't beholden to the Marlins regarding the return they receive for his services.

As part of potential relief from Stanton's $295 million salary, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports mused about the Dodgers requiring the Marlins to take Scott Kazmir, Brandon McCarthy, or Adrian Gonzalez in the deal.
